We are a completely volunteer run rescue that has been running in the town of Vegreville since 2018. As such, we do not have "open hours" for public drop ins. If you would like to see our space or check out our animals, please send us an email. It may take some time for someone to respond to you, as we are once again all volunteers who have other jobs and lives. We survive off of donations to cover the many vet expenses, food, supplies, etc. for the animals. We are a NO KILL shelter!
We intake animals found within Vegreville city limits
We trap feral cats when we have space as part of our barn buddy program
We always check new intakes for tags, microchips and tattoos so that we can hopefully reunite pets with their owners - It is the owners' responsibility to keep their contact information up to date!
We have multiple shifts each day at the rescue where our volunteers feed, clean after, medicate if necessary and socialize the animals in our care. They also bottle feed orphan kittens.
Our fosters give animals a space to live until they find their furever home. All food and supplies are provided to the foster by the rescue
We partake in events and fundraisers to raise money to care for our animals and adopt them out
Sick and injured animals are taken to the vet for treatment
All animals are vaccinated, spayed or neutered, dewormed and tattooed before being adopted out
About Animal Rescue
Engaging in the world of animal rescue can be very rewarding but also very taxing. We see the worst side of people when dealing with cases of animal neglect, abandonment, abuse, etc. We are often working with sick and injured animals, and occasionally we face the unfortunate case where the animal doesn't survive. We also see the best side of people when those are willing to open their homes to a rescued animal, or volunteer their time to help care for the animals. Volunteers at Prairie Tails are exactly that, volunteers. They are not paid and give their own time and resources to aid animals in need. Volunteers have their own lives and jobs, so we are not available 24/7. Please be patient when communicating with us, we do our best. Please be kind and patient with our volunteers as they put a lot of work into helping these animals. Animal control can be contacted at 587-790-1294.
Please be honest and transparent when communicating with us about animals. This includes their condition, where they were found, and how they were found. If you need to surrender an animal, reach out to other rescues (which can be found here).
